Questions, answered

The fastest way to understand FensterDocks is to understand its two overlay types, its rule system, and what it does not do automatically.

Common questions

Short, direct answers for the current release.

01

A plain Fenster is a preview and grouping overlay. A Fenster Folder is backed by a real folder and mirrors that folder directly.
02

Yes. A plain Fenster can be scoped to the Desktop or to another folder such as Downloads when created from Explorer.
03

Rule text matches item names. Use | for OR and & for AND. Example: project|projekti matches either word, and auto&commit matches names containing both words.
04

All, Folders, Applications, Documents, Audio, Media, and Pictures.
05

Yes. Plain Fenster support persistent manual pinning and assignment. Folder-backed Fenster can also receive moved items, and you can hold Ctrl and scroll inside a Fenster to resize its icons.
06

No. The product is designed so items are not moved automatically without an explicit user action.
07

The installer is currently unsigned. That is normal for the current public alpha build.
08

Not fully. Transparent WPF overlays can still show some left/top resize artifacts. This is a known limitation of the current architecture.
